Jedenasta odsłona serii wznowień przygotowanych na 40. rocznicę
działalności King Crimson. Na CD zamieszczono nowy miks stereo
opracowany przez Roberta Frippa i Stevena Wilsona, a na DVD-a miks 5.1
surround sound oraz high resolution stereo autorstwa Wilsona. Na CD
trafiła również studyjna wersja utworu "Absent Lovers", a na DVD surowy
miks albumu pochodzący z pierwszych sesji nagraniowych.
"Beat" ukazał się w czerwcu 1982r., osiem miesięcy po albumie
"Discipline", którym zadebiutował skład grupy z lat 80. To pierwszy
przypadek, kiedy skład KC pozostał bez zmian na dwóch albumach i
pierwsza płyta nagrana z producentem z zewnątrz, Rhettem Daviesem.
Piosenki takie jak "Waiting Man", "Neal and Jack and Me" i "Heartbeat"
szybko zyskały sympatię fanów i stały się żelaznymi elementami
koncertów. Jak zawsze King Crimson parli do przodu, szukając nowych
sposobów na komunikację zarówno wewnętrzną, w zespole, jak i z
publicznością. Na tym albumie King Crimson chyba najbardziej w swojej
karierze zbliżył się do rockowego "mainstreamu".
